Women in Leisure Services is a national organization for professional women involved in the delivery of leisure and community services in private, commercial, and municipal settings. A network of chapters serves administrators, supervisors, educators, therapists and armed forces professionals in defined geographic areas throughout the country.
The organization was founded in 1935 as Chi Kappa Rho by Helen I. Pontius, a recreation professional in Los Angeles, California. The original name was derived from three Greek letters XKP symbolizing; Character, Knowledge and Recreation.
The Chi Chapter, WILS' newest chapter, serves the Greater Chicago Area, welcoming women from Illinois, southeastern Wisconsin, and northwestern Indiana. Meetings, educational workshops, and networking opportunities occur bi-monthly.
